I’ve been writing and re-writing this post for the past couple of weeks in my head trying to figure out the best way to put my thoughts into words. Stream of conscience posts are the easiest way for me to write so excuse grammar, punctuation, and all that other stuff. What I want to talk about is our words and our actions. Words have power. We’ve all been guilty of putting our foot in our mouth so to speak and speaking in anger or if we are hurt. I want to share with you 2 different incidents I’ve observed lately.

Incident 1: I was at an event where a woman made another woman feel less than she was. Woman A was rude, hateful, and hurtful. She made Woman B go from having a great time and having a smile on her face to being upset. It should have never happened. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Women should make other women feel beautiful inside and out. We should build each other up instead of tearing each other down. Give a compliment. It takes nothing but a few words to either make someone’s day or shatter it. As Cinderella says, “Have Courage. Be Kind” I think we all need to remember that more.

Incident 2: There was a recent twitter party and some guys tweet made light of rape. THEN instead of apologizing he basically said he was sorry that we misunderstood him. The next day both him and his twitter bot tweeted out a supposed apology. Said apology still wasn’t an I’m wrong, but more of a look at all of my other tweets why should this one tweet be all that you are talking about. What this guy doesn’t understand is a tweet is 140 characters. That’s it. Within those 140 characters you can say a lot and 1 tweet can reach millions. I always tell my children and myself think before you hit send when it comes to social media. That 1 post can mean a lot.

The bottom line is this. It’s fine to have opinions. I love a good debate just like anyone. I too read the gossip magazines to peek into the life of celebrities, etc. However, I draw the line at using your words to hurt others. Like I said before let’s build each other up. With that being said I hope YOU have a great day! :)

I agree that we should use our words to build each other up. I work in 2nd grade, and so much of the trouble on the playground is caused by someone’s hurtful words to another.
