Pixar is releasing another movie on June 19 2015 and it’s called INSIDE OUT. If you haven’t heard about it yet let me tell you what it’s about:

From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

Sounds interesting right? We headed over to the PIXAR campus to chat with the super talented Director Pete Docter and Producer Jonas Rivera as they gave us a sneak peek of INSIDE OUT. This is a personally story from Pete. His daughter had voiced the young Ellie from the movie up when she was about 9. Then he talked about the struggles we all go through as parents:

Then she turned 11 and 12 and things changed a little bit. She got quiet. We talked to her teachers who’d say, “Ellie’s a quiet girl.” And we’d go like, “Who are you talking about?” So obviously you guys know what that’s like. You go through a difficult, uh, it’s sometimes very difficult, both from the kid’s point of view, and the parent’s point of view. That was really the origins of this film, is trying to figure out what’s going on inside her head, you know?

We had this idea of using emotions as our main characters, Anger, Fear, Sadness, Disgust and Joy. What that lead to was this great research that we got to do talking to psychologists and neurologists, and really deep dive into how and why we think and feel.A lot of that research has shown up in the film, and then of course we made some stuff up too, ‘cause it’s supposed to be fun to watch.

Pete also talked about casting:

You think about casting, and even from the beginning we were thinking, okay, you have Anger, Fear, Sadness, Disgust, you have all these guys who have such strong passionate points of view on how you should act. You know, Fear is always gonna be the one to like, “Uh, maybe we shouldjust back off a little.” And Anger coming forward and we were, you know, early on using Lewis Black, the great comedian, as an example of the kind of cast you could find. We were lucky enough to get him…., Amy Poehler’s who’s just fantastic….Here’s a benchmark. While we’ve been making this film, Bill Hader has had three kids.

I think the casting in this film is PERFECT. Take a cute look at this video that introduces them:

Cute Right?! We also got see the short film that plays right before INSIDE OUT when it hits theaters called LAVA. PIXAR is just as famous for it’s shorts as it is for their feature films and LAVA is another hit!

I don’t want to give a lot away about this short. As I’ve said before PIXAR shorts are usually filled with an emotion and this one is all about Love. So make sure you highlighted June 19th of this year so you can see both IN Theaters! PLUS Follow all the action for even MORE upcoming PIXAR Behind The Scenes News during the upcoming #InsideOutEvent which I’ll be sharing with you soon!
