Screening a movie before it is released always is a fun experience. While I was out in LA we upped the experience and attend the screening with the Cast over at Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. This theatre is the official “Academy” Theatre and is a world-class theater custom-designed to present films at maximum technical accuracy with state-of-the-art projection equipment and sound system. The theater’s 1,012 seats also have been specially designed and placed to create a movie-viewing environment that is ideal in terms of acoustical quality, sightlines and comfort.

First let’s chat a bit about the film. This is an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Into the Woods. I was a total newbie going in. I had not seen or read the play or heard of any of the music. Which was hard because usually I do a ton of research if it’s available. The only thing I knew going in was what Disney put out beforehand. I’m extremely happy I did this. Here is my initial thoughts as soon as the movie ended:
Wow!! @IntoTheWoods is hilarious, extravagant, and heartfelt all at the same time! #IntoTheWoodsEvent

The film starts out re-introducing to the characters that you already know…with a little bit more shall we say. Not every character is what you know so be prepared to be mesmerized with visuals, lyrics, songs, voices, costumes, and a great story. Everyone starts out with a wish. Some wishes you remember and some are new. However as Meryl Streep creeps in and out as the With they all realize these wishes can be granted in some form or fashion by Going “Into the Woods” from there hijinks ensue.

The big-screen adaptation welcomes songs from the stage musical, including “Children Will Listen,” “Giants in the Sky,” “On the Steps of the Palace,” “No One Is Alone” and “Agony,” among others. These scenes are my favorite. Agony bring Chris Pine’s 2 dimensional “Charming” Prince to the forefront, Children Will Listen gives you goosebumps, On The Steps of the Palace has Anna Kendrick belting out like only she can.

Bottom line is that the entire family will find something in this film they will like. If you have younger kiddos then make it a date night! You will be humming the songs and looking for the soundtrack when you leave. My entire family will be their on Christmas Day after all the festivities!

I’m so glad I read this. I have two younger boys (6 and 8) and wasn’t sure about this movie because the movie poster looked a little scary. I had no idea it was an adaptation of a musical and that it was great for the younger ones. I think we’ll be watching this one over the holiday season now - a family outing is in the works!

What a marvelous experience for you! We had planned to take our extended family to see this on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, my debit card got hacked and I now have NO MONEY in my bank account. Arrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhh. I’ve never dealt with this situation with a credit union. It’s become a nightmare. My account is frozen, and I can’t get any of my money back until a physically get back home, file a police report, then take that to the bank and then fill out papers there…and then WAIT.
Hopefully the movie will be at the theaters for a while.

We got lucky in NYC this year as this was the big press conference for us as well! We had two rounds and the talent could not have been more lovely, it was almost as entertaining as the movie, which I also loved!
