The Florida Keys are a magical place. I’ve been before, earlier this year in fact, but this was my the first time for us as a family. We had many stops along our schedule and the first was Bay Harbor Lodge in Key Largo. When driving along the Keys everything seems hidden. Bay Harbor Lodge & Coconut Bay Resort a cozy bay front resort situated on 2.5 acres of lush tropical foliage.
Our little cottage was right on the water. I loved our little yellow cottage and wish we could have stayed longer.
We arrived to a nice welcome from the staff who were super helpful. They gave us great dinner recommendations right down the street and even had a 10% off coupon for us to use.
Cozy waterfront cottage set back a few feet from the water. The bedroom has 2 queen size bed and the en suite bathroom has a shower/tub combination. A galley style fully equipped kitchen is situated between the bedroom and the living room has a table and chairs over- looking Florida Bay . A sofa bed and comfortable chair complete the accommodations. Both rooms have flat screen televisions.
For your outdoor dining pleasure, the cottage has a tikki hut with a table and chairs and a charcoal grill. Sleeps a maximum of four persons.
Sitting on the back porch enjoying the view, husband & kiddos in the ocean, wine in my hand. THAT was relaxing. Especially after our long drive down. This was just the type of place I wanted to start out at.
The property had a dock, kayaks, and paddleboats for recreation. We did take the kayaks out and it was fun and a little frightening. The kids were a little nervous at first because sometimes you could see manatees in the water, but we did not. However, we may have had a family race and the girls may have kicked the boys butt. #justsayin

Bottom line: Bay Harbor Lodge is perfect for small families or couples looking to escape and go somewhere smaller. The staff were amazing, it has everything you need, and you are close to some great places to eat. We will miss our little cottage and hope to visit it again someday.
