My Experience With Geek Squad Tech Support

We’ve all seen or heard of the Geek Squad, but if you like me I’m always a little nervous about giving someone access to my computer. As a blogg, I practically live and breathe through my iMac. When I’m home and plugged in I’m tetheres to this chair and in fron of my computer. Working, Doing Social, Media, Facebook Stalking, you get the picture. I bought a Mac because a lot of my friends had switched over to Apple and they were not having as many problems as I was having with my PC. Sooooo I made the leap. Bouth my mac and never looked back. It’s been over a year since I bought my computer and I do notice a little lagging so I figured this would be the perfect time to let the Geek Squad check it out.

You have 3 options, via Phone, On-Line, and In-Store. I chose online since I’m online anyway. It took about 13 minutes to get connected to my agent and it’s a Sunday. So I can imagine during peak times it may be busy. Be patient your agent will be with you shortly. I had Agent Troy B. Troy B. was friendly, helpful, and gave my PC the tuneup it needed.

It took about 13 minutes to connect to an agent and it’s a Sunday. I can imagine on busy days it will be a bit of a wait, but just be patient and they will get with you.

Service Options:

  • Optimize startup and shutdown, install Windows updates, improve menu navigation, cleanup quick launch and taskbar and create program shortcuts
  • Enable security functions including antiphishing and pop-up blocking activation in Internet Explorer
  • Removal of unwanted programs and trialware
  • Creation of desired user accounts (if applicable)
  • Test and verify PC hardware and software functionality

So to start things off, I ran through and updated your OS to the latest version via Apple Updater, then afterwards I ran some simple cleanup scripts to clear out any junk or temporary files which may have accumulated over the years, then lastly I’m just running a disk permissions repair of the hard drive to check for and repair any issues which may have been found on the computer

All in all in took about an hour and 15 minutes max and I can already see that the lagging issue I had is resolved. Everything seems to be running smoother and faster! Agent Troy B. Even offered to answer a few questions for you all! Check out some excepts below

Kasandria: How long have you been a part of Geek Squad?
Agent Troy B.: 3 years and…5 months now.

Kasandria: Wow that’s quite a long time! What’s the usual questions/problems people come to you with?
Agent Troy B.: Since I graduated high school, it’s helped me pay for college w/ tuition reimbursement. Questions: Do I have a virus? Answer: No, you’re mistaking something else for a virus. Main thing I run into though is just that, however I spend most of my day just doing tune ups like I’ll be doing with yours.

Kasandria: Awesome. What would you say is the easiest thing people can do at home to keep their computers running smoothly?
Agent Troy B.: For all newer operating systems, the biggest part, defragmentation, is taken care of for you automatically in the background. The rest you could do is just cleaning up temporary junk files that take up needless space on your hard drive and slow things down. Also, don’t install anything you don’t need, try to keep what you have installed as slim as possible – The more you have installed, the more stuff gets tacked on to the startup process, or set to run in the background which really drags things down.

    I’m lucky in that my husband IS my own personal Geek Squad, but I’d definitely use them if I didn’t have him! I’ve always heard great things about them!

    I went into the store and talked with the Geek Squad peeps a couple weeks back. They were total ROCKSTARS!! The girl who helped me was way patient with my lack of skills and had me running my new tablet like a pro in about 1/2 hour! LOVE them!
