Based on P.L. Travers cherished stories and the classic 1964 Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins features the Sherman brothers original Academy Award-winning songs.

The show has been created, in collaboration with Cameron Mackintosh, by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes, who has written the book, and the Olivier Award-winning team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, who have composed new songs and additional music and lyrics.

Olivier Award-winning director Richard Lyre leads a dream team of vision and stagecraft bringing to life the story of the Banks family and their magical nanny. Co-direction and choreography is by Olivier Award-winner Matthew Bourne, set and costume design is by Tony Award winner Bob Crowley, co-choreography is by Olivier Award-winner Stephen Mear, and lighting design is by Olivier Award-winner Howard Harrison.

Mary Poppins marks the first collaboration between Disney, producer of acclaimed The Lion King and Cameron Mackintosh, legendary producer of the record-breaking The Phantom of the Opera, Cats and Les Miserable. The result is a new musical so extraordinarily enchanting that, like the critics, you’ll have just one word for it: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

I’m a HUGE fan of musicals, but have never actually seen a Broadway show. I’ve seen some shows at Disney World that were pretty close, but there’s nothing like walking through the streets of New York and then seeing the Bright Lights that say: “SPECTACULAR! A Smart, Witty EXTRAVAGANZA” I was giddy with excitement and a little nervous. We walked in and sat down and the show began…..I was in awe. Literally if someone had took a shot of me watching my face would have looked like a kid at Christmas. It was truly amazing. The dancing, the singing, the acting. EVERYTHING! It just flowed together was such ease. I heard songs from my childhood and my children’s childhood. The little kids who performed as Michael and Jane Banks were spectacular. Always on their mark. Perfect pitch and tone. Mary Poppins and Bert had amazing chemistry. Every dance number was something inventive that blew my mind.  I could have watched for hours.

We also had a chance to tour the famous New Amsterdam theater. It was beautiful in a haunting way. In fact it’s said to have a ghost. Olive Thomas a rumored favorite of Ziegfeld’s. When Disney took over the theater in 1997 it had seen some rough times. When they opened the doors their were mushrooms growing near the orchestra pit and animals of all sorts came running out. So as your walking through the hallways you can feel the history. Check out the lady of progress below:
