It’s 1988 and Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley have only just met. But after only one day together, they cannot stop thinking about one another. Over twenty years, snapshots of that relationship are revealed on the same day—July 15th—of each year. Dex and Em face squabbles and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. And as the true meaning of this one crucial day is revealed, they must come to grips with the nature of love and life itself.

My Review: (WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD)
I try not to post spoilers in my book reviews, but I feel like I must in this review. I had debated on reading this book for some time. It had been on the best seller list for quite some time. I had heard mixed reviews. Some loved it others hated it. When I saw it was being made into a movie I made up my mind and read it. While I didn’t hate it I did not like it either. I mean the “idea’ I get 2 people who are so much alike and really are in love yet circumstances and other people keep getting in the way. My problem was even when Dexter was being nice he was still a royal pain. He basically wanted Emma just when he wanted her and when she was with others he couldn’t stand it. There where a few points even when they were together that they just didn’t feel in love. It was like they loved the idea of being in love. Know what I mean. Then the ending and here comes the spoiler. She was out riding a bike and boom she was run over and died. Ummmm first off didn’t we see that in a movie with Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage? Remember City of Angels? In THAT movie I cried. In One Day the book I was just left with disappointment. I still haven’t seen the movie yet and I’m hoping that somehow Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess somehow make it work, but I can wait till it comes on HBO. What about you? Have you read the book? Where you ok with the ending? Here’s the movie trailer below:

Sounds disappointing! Yah, I think I’ll miss this one – both the book and movie.
I can’t wait to see this movie, and the cover of the book makes me want to see it even more! It looks so romantic. I didn’t read the entire post because I don’t want the plot ruined for me. LOL Thanks for pointing out that it contained spoilers!

I was left with a similar feeling of disappointment when I finished this recently. I wasn’t really in to the characters at any point, and when the accident happens I didn’t care very much. Except for maybe wishing it had been Dexter that got bumped off instead of the marginally more appealing Emma.
