JoeShopping.com is basically a combination of comparison shopping (like amazon.com or shopping.com), crossed with the best parts of various social networks (Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, etc.). Users can post photos of themselves with their newest outfits, add videos of them trying to take an action figure out of its packaging despite all those twisty ties, write a product review of the millions of products in our database, write a blog post about their fondest birthday presents, share their latest shopping adventure, etc. In short, it’s a hefty social network themed around shopping.
When I first signed up and filled out all the profile info I had already earned a whopping 21 points and 2 badges. You earn JoePoints just by using the social network side of our side. (Upload a photo, write a blog post, write a shopping status, etc.) You can earn points throughout the entire month. At the end of the month, your total points are converted to entries in the sweeps. So the more active on the site you are, the more points you earn. Which means the more active you are, the better your chance of winning. Plus, Refer your friends and earn 10 JoePoints for every friend who registers and earns 15 JoePoints themselves!
Then there are the Badges. You can can “unlock” them by doing various things on the site. Like the Friendly Badge above you can earn by finding 25 shopping buddies.
While all the fun stuff is cool let’s get down to the nitty gritty. What exactly can JoeShopping.com do for me? As you know I like to find the hottest deals on the web. Today I logged on and went to the Hot Deals section of the forum and found out from Jill that Best Buy had the Kodak Mini Camcorder w/ 1.8″ Color LCD Monitor for only $39.99. I immediately emailed my mom who had been linking of buying a Flip and she bought this. The only negative thing about the site is that it might get overshadowed by all the badges and points and you might miss the actual deals.
