Andy Warhol says that everyone gets 15 Minutes of Fame. If so mine is now up. I was one of the few bloggers who flew out to Hollywood this past weekend for the Gnomeo and Juliet premiere. Everything was so magical and wonderful it’s hard to know where to begin, but before I start my recap I have to give major props and HUGE thank yous to the wonderful duo of Marshall Weinbaum and Dustin Sandoval of Disney for putting this all together.
I flew in on Friday and checked into the beautiful Renaissance Hollywood Hotel where I had an amazing view of the Hollywood sign from my room. Then we met up with everyone in the lobby and headed out for our screenings. I saw 2 films on Friday. Gnomeo and Juliet and I Am Number Four. Reviews for those movies will be posted the week they open, but I have to say both movies are a MUST SEE! Then me and a few fellow bloggers wandered up and down Hollywood Blvd. for a bit before heading to bed.
Saturday was a whirlwind of many things. Some I can share now and some I have to wait on, but believe me the wait is totally worth it! First we headed over to the fabulous Four Season Hotel where the Gnomeo and Juliet Press Junket was taking place. This is where we as a group had round table discussions with the director Kelly Asbury, actors James McAvoy and Emily Blunt, and the one and only Sir Elton John. I have the audio of those and will be posting them later this week so keep an eye out.
Then we drove over to the Disney Studio Lot for a tour of the Animation Building and was able to see an empty soundstage and the set of No Ordinary Family. This building had the Seven Dwarfs on it and they are holding up “The Foundation Of Disney” So the Disney Geek in me loved that. I saw some actual cells from some of the most famous Disney movies like Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast. We also got to tour the “hidden tunnel” where the animators would take the pictures over to get them painted. You could feel the history of the building. There was even mention of a few ghosts!
We met a few special surprise guests and I will tell you all about it as soon as I can, but I can tell you that we saw some great previews for the upcoming films African Cats, Prom, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 3D and Cars 2 in 3D. All of which look totally cool. I am a little bummed about so many movies being shown in 3D. Am I the only one who is a little tired of it? I hope there will be a 2D option for Pirates at least. We were also able to screen the movie Mars Needs Moms. I’ll have the review up of it shortly. Then we had dinner at The Grill with a few members of Click, Marshall, Dustin, and Samantha from Disney.
Sunday was the big day. We were carted off for a surprise and then we had to get all dolled up for the Gnomeo and Juliet Premiere. I had my dress picked out beforehand and was going to wear a pair of heels, but I was afraid I would be the one blogger who would fall and be all over the celebrity gossip rags pulling a Brittney Spears, but I went with flats at the last minute and am proud to say I made it down the red carpet without falling.
Walking the red carpet was totally surreal. Seeing all the paparazzi first hand and hearing them shout “Elton look this way! David one more!” while we were ushered into the El Capitan theater. I’m not sure I could handle doing that all the time and have a new found respect for all the talent. Here’s a picture of me on the red carpet right behind Elton John and his partner David courtesy of Disney Dreaming:
After the movie was over the screen came up and there was Elton John with a red piano!! He performed the hit Crocodile Rock which is featured in the film. Everyone in the theater went CRAZY! There was screaming and we were all La La La La-ing along with him. It was a once in a lifetime event.
Everyone headed over to The Highlands for the after party. I saw Sharon Osbourne and her son Jack, Gavin Rossdale with his son, Elton John and his partner David, James McAvoy, Kelly Asbury, David Copperfield, Perez Hilton, and the entire cast of Disney’s Shake It up. I rubbed elbows with them all and spent my 15 minutes of fame exactly where I wanted it to be. The bloggers I met on this trip will truly be friends for life. I wouldn’t change a thing.
***Disclosure: I was a guest for the Disney Gnomeo and Juliet premiere, but all my opinions are my own.***
