I’m a big fan of series books, but every once in awhile you just want to read a good simple novel. Stephen King books are my favorite for this. He has been my favorite author since I was about 10 years old and reading The Shining for the first time. His latest book is Under The Dome
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away.
Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.
BUY IT!

This book is VERY large. My first reading I wasn’t sure if I could get into it, but let me tell you once you get past the first 100 pages or so you are in for a RIDE! It is a great read and sticks to King’s other works easily. While it may not be his greatest work it shows us that he still has it. Check out Stephen’s thoughts on this book below:

I am about 300 pages into this book, and I’m hooked. It’s my bath book, so it may take me a while to finish it, but so far, I’m loving it.
jenn´s last [type] ..A New Headboard
I LOVE Stephen King. He’s my favorite author too. I was really hoping ‘The Dome’ would be out in paperback before I had my baby so I could read it while I nursed all day and night. I read too many books to buy them in hardcovers, so I have to wait for the paperbacks. I haven’t started this one yet, but I’m looking forward to it!
This sounds like a really good read…for some reason the dome reminds me of The Simpsons movie, they had a dome dropped on them also…LOL A recurrent theme it seems these days, cuz now my brain is remembering all the other “domed” type movies/books that are out there…however, Stephen’s should be the best, he’s also got such neat twists at the end of his stories! Thanx for a great review…I’m going to have to get this for my Kobo and have a grand time reading it!!
