Mystery Shopping or Secret Shopping is a great way to earn money by doing things you would normally do. From eating out, staying at hotels, shopping at name brand stores to even getting gas. I was a Secret Shopper for over 7 years and know the ins and outs of the business. I will share my secrets over the course of many posts here on this blog.
First and foremost you should NEVER EVER pay for signing up with a company or for a so called “list” of companies. Again the same rules as survey companies. They pay YOU to work for them as an Independent Contractor, and YES you do have to pay taxes if you make over $699 in a year.
Next, I would look around at: http://www.mysteryshop.org/ The MPSA is a good place to get started. You can even get Gold or Silver certified which means you will get preferred treatment for any company associated with the MPSA. I did the Gold Certification when they came to Nashville many moons ago. It was nice to go to an official meeting and get to know your fellow shoppers and network with some companies. The courses DO cost, but you DO NOT have to have the certification to mystery shop. It’s just an extra.
