February 5th is National Wear Red Day. What does that mean? Mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts — everyday women are dying at the rate of almost one per minute. Speak up. Make a difference. Show your support for the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red. It’s an easy, powerful way to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
- Getting your coworkers to join you in wearing red to work
- Asking the man in your life to wear something red
- Promoting healthy hearts with a heart-healthy meal for your friends and family
- Using our Wear Red Day fundraising tool to reach out to friends and family and donating proceeds to Go Red For Women.

On the Go Red For Women site, I found that I could access the American Heart Association’s healthy cookbook by signing up — now I can learn a lot more about cooking healthy recipes that incorporate whole grains, fat-free and low-fat dairy products, vegetables and fruits, all ingredients that promote a healthy heart. Thanks!

I like the Speak Up part of the site specifically the
Speak up for the vital research that is needed today to lead to better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart disease in women tomorrow
My husband’s family has a history of heart disease, and it took both the lives of his dad and his mom. I feel that if his mom’s condition would have been diagnosed and treated quicker she would still be with us today.

As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.
