General Mills Cereals Now Have Reduced Sugar!

General Mills Cereal

Are you a cereal eater? I am! Whenever I am in the mood for a sweet snack I eat a bowl of cereal. My FAVORITE cereal right now has definitely got to be Lucky Charms. The Marshmallows and the sweetened cereal is just delish. My kids are also big cereal fans. They switch it up from cold ready-to-eat cereal to waffles to oatmeal depending on their mood. Now for the big announcement….

“General Mills announced a commitment to further reduce sugar in cereals advertised to kids under 12 to single digit grams of sugar per serving. The company has already been reducing sugar in cereals while increasing key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, and providing whole grain.”

To me as a parent that is wonderful news! Anything that makes the cereal actually more healthier AND keeps them from bouncing off the walls I am all for it! Also did you know that studies also demonstrate the benefits of eating breakfast. A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office. To me that’s just another reason to make sure my kiddos eat a well balanced breakfast in the morning.
